Let’s Talk About Press, Baby…
Specifically, bad press. You know the kind. An anonymous commenter, negative email, or even random forum post dedicated to the thrashing of your online reputation.
Read it. Soak it in. And move on.
You know the phrase “there’s no such thing as bad press?” It’s a phrase b/c it’s true. Seriously. In fact, Jeremy Shoemaker has a very in-depth article explaining the exact phenomenon.
Go read it. And if you still feel bad about yourself, try ice cream.

very true.
Husband had to talk me down the first time I read a bad review on line! It’s always been easy to acknowledge that you can’t make everyone happy, but to see it in writing caught me off guard. I had this long rebuttal mentally written (because they were so wrong!), but Husband had to convince me not to get into back and forth arguments with angry people on line.
Now, I still get angry, but I let it go! After maybe an hour or two…
It really does catch you off guard to first time it happens and it’s hard not to take it personally. I find that if I let the comment sit there for a couple days, it no longer bothers me – or – if I do respond, it’s something tactful and not inflammatory like it might have been if I’d responded immediately. In the end it’s better to just move on and ignore the mean people.
